The Territory between the Images

En The Territory Between the Images, utilicé una cámara de video portátil para filmar dos tipos de materiales fotográficos pertenecientes al catastro. Además, registré una navegación a través de Google Earth por el territorio rural de la provincia de León, España. El título de esta videoinstalación alude a nuevas formas de comprender este territorio que surgen a partir de una yuxtaposición taxonómica de imágenes de archivo.Cuando comencé este proyecto, estaba reflexionando sobre las zonas rurales y la interrelación entre historia y geografía, en particular sobre el fenómeno de la despoblación masiva en la España rural desde la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se trata de un fenómeno significativo en la historia reciente de España, ya que, antes de la década de 1950, la mayoría de la población vivía en áreas rurales. En esta obra, la microhistoria y la macrohistoria se entrecruzan.

Este proyecto se mostró en la exposición La metodología del proyecto en el MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, en el 2012. Esta exposición mostraba los proyectos artísticos en curso surgidos a partir de un taller dirigido por el artista Antoni Muntadas en colaboración con Alfredo Puente en MUSAC entre enero y junio de 2012. El MUSAC edito una publicación que recoge los diferentes proyectos planteados. Podéis acceder a la publicación aquí. EN- In The Territory Between the Images, I used a hand-held video camera to film two types of photographic materials belonging to the land registry. Additionally, I recorded navigation through Google Earth across the rural territory of the province of León, Spain. The title of this video installation alludes to new understandings of this territory that emerge through a taxonomic juxtaposition of archival images. When I began this project, I was reflecting on rural areas and the interplay of history and geography—particularly the issue of massive depopulation in rural Spain since the second half of the 20th century. This is a noteworthy phenomenon in recent Spanish history, as the majority of the population before the 1950s lived in rural areas. In this piece, micro-history and macro-history intersect.

The territory between the images, Leon, 2012 was showed atthe exhibition The methodology of the project at the MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León in 2012. This exhibition showed the ongoing artistic projects resulted from a workshop conducted by the artist Antoni Muntadas in collaboration with  Alfredo Puente in MUSAC from January to June 2012. MUSAC edited a publication with the different projects.
